This guide is to go alongside my List on Google Maps, ‘A Slice of Peru’s Miraflores Highlights’. It just explains my choices in slightly more detail and shares any extra information I may have written previously. Links for the different locations are available through the map. I hope this helps give you some inspiration for your next trip to Miraflores!

A Peruvian Playlist

Peru is just full of musical talent.

But I’m sure you already knew that.

I have discovered so many great Peruvian artists since living here and I would love to share a few of them with you. Some of the following artists are famous worldwide, and others are more nationally well-known, but all have their own Latin flavour and style.

A Slice of Christmas // Festive British-Peruvian Feasts in London

a-slice-of-christmas // A Slice of Peru

Festive party season is upon us and everyone is searching for that perfect place for their work/friends Christmas dinner. If you fancy something a little different then booking a Peruvian fusion Christmas menu could be just what you need.

At first glance they may not seem Christmassy in a traditional British sense of the word but by using a combination of great British and Peruvian ingredients they truly make a feast. And after all, isn’t that what food at Christmas is all about? Sharing it family style and feasting to celebrate the wintertime. It all sounds delicious to me.

Peruvian food is also a fab option if you have a vegetarian in your party as the cuisine has so many options to choose from. Gluten free diets are also catered to as well!

I’ve not tried any of these specific menus (they are just suggestions for you), but I have chosen restaurants that I have actually visited over the last few years, so that I know how great the quality and ambience is!

So, without further ado let me give you some feasting contenders….

Escape to the Dunes // Pisco Tasting at La Caravedo

Ica is the main area in Peru for distilling pisco, the national spirit.

Pisco is made in a similar way to some types of brandy, but the final product is clear instead of dark. The grape juice is first fermented until it becomes a young wine. This means pisco is actually made from wine, not from the leftovers of wine production. After the fermentation has taken place, it is distilled and then rested in an odourless, non-reactive container (no wood) for a minimum of three months until it can be bottled. Pisco production is very strictly regulated and each producer must follow these same rules.

Pisco is absolutely delicious, especially when you buy it from a great producer.

My Favourite…. Torta de Chocolate

dolce cakeThis is not technically a specifically Peruvian dessert, however you won’t find a pasteleria here in Lima without their version of chocolate cake. Also, you might have heard that cacao here is a big deal so, you know, it’s only fair to include the cake in my list of Peruvian desserts. Oh, and I love chocolate cake.

Are you, like me, one of those people that always has hope at any parties or weddings that you attend that the cake is going to be a chocolate one? Yeah, thought so.

Chocolate cake here in Peru comes in many forms. From a two or three layer dense and sticky cake to a one layer chocolate packed wonder. From a manjar blanco-y (that is a word btw), fudgy icing, to a simple chocolate ganache. And just about everything in between. Oh yes, everything. On the bad side, I’ve eaten chocolate cake that just tasted of cake….no chocolate, just cake. On the positive, some bakeries like to twist it up a notch adding truffles, liqueurs, and other fancy items, which do not often disappoint.

However, I have decided that for my recommendations I want to focus on the old favourite of chocolate cake + icing. Now in my search for said perfect cake, I have found that there were certain criteria.

Escape to the Dunes // Las Dunas Resort, Ica

I have been amazingly lucky to visit Ica twice this year.

It was an area I had been wanting to visit for a while now and this year was finally the time. I went in April when my brother came to stay and more recently for my birthday at the end of August.

This first post is actually all about the latter stay and the beautiful resort we stayed in to celebrate my 30th.

So, without further ado….
